Intern Spotlight: Ayana Scriven

Hey y’all, name is Ayana. I was born and raised here in Columbia, SC. I chose to attend UofSC because I wanted to study at the Darla Moore School of Business. I am studying Business Economics with a minor in Public Relations. I spend most of my time on campus at the business school or studying at the library.

I am currently involved in the Black Business Students Association. BBSA is an organization dedicated to students of all majors who are interested in professional development and promoting diversity at UofSC. I am excited to serve as an ambassador for the Pre-professional Advising Office this upcoming year as well. One fun fact about me is that I’ve played the violin since I was ten years old. I have not had much time to dedicate to this hobby, but I have participated in UofSC’s Campus Orchestra.

While I am an Economics major, I have gained an interest in the marketing industry. I was fortunate enough to explore my interests through an internship with the My Carolina Alumni Association. This Marketing & Sales Assistant position allowed me to gain experience in sales and improve my communication skills. My favorite part of the internship was tracking membership goals and adjusting marketing strategies based on our target audience.

The best part of the Student Alumni Association is the opportunity to attend networking events and connect with alumni of the university. It doesn't hurt to get free t-shirts as well!

My advice to incoming freshmen is to attend networking events offered by the Student Alumni Association so that the experience is gained early. Extra tips: try to avoid consecutive classes on opposite sides of campus and never forget water on game day!
